Our client is one of the world’s largest mobile community with equity interests in 27 countries and Partner Networks in a further 32 countries. Seeking to enlarge its team from Malta, we are currently looking for a Data Base and SAN Administrator.

Reports to: IT Services Manager
Role Purpose:
To provide operational infrastructure, and implementation of database and SAN architectures and solutions according to the business requirements.
To provide technical advice, guidance and skilled resource to design, build and test database components throughout the lifecycle of a project.
Part of a designated team dealing with deployment, planning and/or operations of RDBMSs and SAN.
This is a role that is challenging from the skills required to ensure all planned work is completed in a minimum time-scale utilising best practice to ensure the highest possible quality of service to the customer.
Key Accountabilities / Key Activities:
1.System maintenance and performance:
Maintaining system integrity, security, resilience, performance and availability of database systems and the storage area network.
Investigate and diagnose complex problems, working with users and suppliers, providing resolution to problems in co-operation with other functions thereby ensuring maximum availability and performance of business production systems
2.Project team member:
Participation in project teams
Undertakes to promote teamwork and commitment with peers and other departments
3.Follow up on industry and the clients Group developments:
Keeps up to date with industry and clients' developments, ensuring that best practice is adopted and seeks to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
Undergoes training and personal development courses as arranged by the Company
Cerinte:
I.T. professional qualification.
Providing efficient database object administration, to support the build of development, test and production environments.
Providing “ad-hoc” database support to internal and external development projects.
Specific technical knowledge of Oracle RDBMS products, ranging from version 8i to 10g.
Core Oracle DBA skills to include: Oracle RDBMS software installation, upgrade, patching, cloning, system admin.
Specific technical knowledge of databases backup and recovery procedures, including RMAN technology.
Knowledge of MySQL and MS SQL Server would be considered an asset.
Performance tuning, PL/SQL, OS and Batch/SQL Scripting.
Capacity planning, trouble-shooting and problem solving.
Must have high level knowledge of various Web applications (ie: Apache, Tomcat, JDK, etc.), networking configuration and identification of potential networking issues.
Practical hands-on knowledge of SAN administration, in particular, HP EVAs would be considered an asset.
Good knowledge of networks and services.
Ability to deliver in dynamic environments.
Capabilities to work on projects with an associated high degree of complexity.
The candidate will demonstrate the ability to work both independently and under direct supervision and should be able to prioritise workload.
Working within an international environment and to international standards.
English language is a must.
Good communications, presentation and negotiations skills.
Believes in team working, good at building links and trust with people.
